  • Perplexity Labs Launched With Ability to Generate Spreadsheets, Reports and Create Web Apps

Perplexity Labs can take 10 minutes or more to complete one project.

Perplexity Labs, a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature within the Perplexity platform, was introduced on Thursday. The company says the new mode can turn text prompts into full-fledged projects such as reports, spreadsheets, and even simple web apps. Perplexity Labs uses deep web browsing and code execution, to perform complex tasks that were so far beyond the scope of the platform. The new feature comes a month after the San Francisco-based AI firm released the Perplexity Assistant for iOS.

Perplexity Labs Takes Roughly 10 Minutes to Complete a Task

The company says that Perplexity Labs is an enhanced version of Deep Research, and it is currently available to all Perplexity Pro subscribers. The latter generates comprehensive answers to complex queries that typically require multiple searches. The new feature, with the use of several specific tools and by spending more time on the task, can also take actions and execute commands to generate documents and web apps.

Perplexity Labs can perform deep web browsing, code execution, chart creation, and image creation, as per the company. The company did not specify if these are agentic tools, and if the new feature supports a multi-agent workflow. It also did not reveal if separate large language models (LLMs) were powering capabilities like image creation and code execution.

The company says that Perplexity Labs can write and execute code to perform tasks such as structuring data, applying formulas, and creating charts and documents. Any documents, code files, charts, and images created during the task are added to a separate Assets tab. Users can view and download these files from there. There’s also an App tab that enables creation of basic dashboards, slideshows, and websites.

The description of the feature does make it sound like an agentic capability. Perplexity says it can take 10 minutes or more to complete “self-supervised” tasks. While users can see the chain-of-thought (CoT), it is unclear if they can also pause or interrupt the AI to edit the initial prompt or change the direction of the outcome.

The company also shared examples of tasks that Perplexity Labs can handle. These include creating a trading strategy around a specific stock or event, generating a genre-blended film concept with a visual storyboard and screenplay, creating company profiles, or generating comparative data visualisations.

  • Google, DOJ to Make Final Push in US Search Antitrust Case

AI companies could get a boost after already rattling Google’s status as the go-to tool to find information online.

Alphabet’s Google and US antitrust enforcers will make their final arguments on whether the tech giant should be forced to sell its Chrome browser or adopt other measures to restore competition in online search, as the blockbuster antitrust trial concludes on Friday.

The US Department of Justice and a coalition of states are pressing to make Google not only sell Chrome, but also share search data and cease multibillion-dollar payments to Apple and other smartphone makers and wireless carriers that set Google as the default search engine on new devices.

The proposals aim to restore competition after a judge found last year that Google illegally dominates the online search and related advertising markets. Artificial Intelligence (AI) companies could get a boost after already rattling Google’s status as the go-to tool to find information online.

US District Judge Amit Mehta is overseeing the trial, which began in April. He has said he aims to rule on the proposals by August.

If the judge does require Google to sell off ChromeOpenAI would be interested in buying it, Nick Turley, OpenAI’s product head for ChatGPT, said at the trial.

OpenAI would also benefit from access to Google’s search data, which would help it make responses to user inquiries more accurate and up to date, Turley said.

Google says the proposals go far beyond what is legally justified by the court’s ruling, and would give away its technology to competitors. The company has already begun loosening agreements with smartphone makers including Samsung Electronics to allow them to load rival search and AI products.

The DOJ wants the judge to go farther, banning Google from making lucrative payments in exchange for installation of its search app.

  • Kedarnath Yatra Helicopter Booking Online Scam: Uttarakhand Police STF Reportedly Cracks Down on Cybercriminals

The Uttarakhand government has advised pilgrims to book Kedarnath helicopter tickets via the IRCTC website.

The Uttarakhand government has cracked down on fake websites involved in helicopter ticket booking scams. Cybercriminals are targeting people during the Kedarnath Yatra, a pilgrimage to the Kedarnath Temple that is part of the Chota Char Dham Yatra. According to a report, fraudsters have created fake ticket booking websites and are advertising them via social media pages. Uttarakhand police has also asked citizens to remain alert, and multiple social media pages associated with this online scam have been blocked so far.

Kedarnath Yatra Helicopter Ticket Booking Scams on the Rise

According to a recent report, the Uttarakhand Police special task force (STF) has shut down 51 URLs or websites, 56 bank accounts, and 30 WhatsApp numbers that are associated with helicopter booking scams. Meanwhile, 111 phone numbers that are linked to cyber fraud have reportedly been blocked.

Fraudsters are attempting to lure pilgrims with fake tickets for the helicopter service. These tickets promise rides from sites which are currently not supported, and at a lower price to lure individuals into paying the cybercriminals. Scammers are said to be using social media pages and websites for this purpose.

The Uttarakhand Police posted a video on YouTube earlier this month, warning travellers to be cautious when booking helicopter tickets online. The video also states that the police have blocked 37 such social media pages that were found to be associated with the scam, while the report indicates that even more pages have been blocked.

Meanwhile, pilgrims have been urged to avoid persons who approach them claiming to be an agent or representative of helicopter services. They have also been asked to report fraudulent websites or social media pages to the Uttarakhand STF by calling 1930 or emailing ccps.deh@uttarakhandpolice.uk.gov.in.

Further, the government suggests that when devotees visit any websites for helicopter ticket booking, they should verify their authenticity first. It should be noted that the official portal for all helicopter bookings for Kedarnath is hosted by the IRCTC.

The Traitors will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting June 9. A new episode will drop every Thursday at 8 PM.

The viral video has clocked 1.3 million views so far. In the comments section, many people pointed out that non-commercial versions of water jelly are found in countries apart from Japan. They disputed the Instagram user’s claim that Japan “invented” it. Others talked about their love for the Japanese products specifically, including other “flavoured” water jellies. Read some of the reactions below:

“I love these drinks. So cooling, the lemon one is my go-to!”

“I accidentally got this after landing in Japan, thinking it was water, and it was like not bad, just a little overwhelming once you’re like halfway through the bottle.”

“I searched everywhere when I was in Japan last summer, and I didn’t find it until the end of my trip, so glad I found it. I really like it.””In France, in elderly care homes, we actually use jelly water to keep people hydrated. When you start to get old, you’re at a higher risk of choking. This is a good way to keep our elderly people hydrated.”

“In France, it’s used in hospitals and nursing homes for people who have difficulty swallowing and to prevent choking. I have never seen it sold in stores!”

“I had a couple of bottles of it while in Japan last year, and it was delicious.”

“Wow, that’s pretty wild. I wonder does it hydrates you more than water? It could maybe be used as a sports drink if the added electrolytes are added to it, they may bond more to the jelly and stick with you longer… Haha, just a guess… Pretty cool though. I’d try it.””In France, in elderly care homes, we actually use jelly water to keep people hydrated. When you start to get old, you’re at a higher risk of choking.
